The Anodizing Delay Story Continues

Here are some updates on the anodizing delays from Salvun:

I have been on the phone for the past couple of days, trying to see what is up with all the boards and prototypes that are currently still at the anodizer.

Last week I was told they would be sent back here this week. It is clear that is not going to happen. I am just as unhappy as everyone else waiting to get the cases back. They are taking their sweet time it seems, unfortunately.

So I called them in my unhappy mood, and asked them: what the hell is up? In reality there are multiple factors at play, that is why it is taking a lot longer than usual. The still lingering backlash from the almost 2 months of COVID-19 related shutdown. Understaffing due to sick-leave. But the biggest reason seems to be that they are having some quality issues with the blasted finish and racking.

They decided to not send the batch back as is, but to rework most of them. This is sadly adding time again to the already way overdue delivery of these items. On one hand I am super angry, sad, and let's not forget: stressed out of my mind. On the other hand I am super happy that the anodizer is taking this very seriously, and are not willing to send anything back that they are not 100% happy with.

This affects the following projects:

  • Sofia prototype,
  • Radiant prototype,
  • 6D prototype,
  • Conone production,
  • and a large batch of keycaps.

I hope these all will return to the workshop very soon, so that we can do final QC and send these out, getting things moving again. I apologize again for all the extra waiting you all have to endure, and am sorry for the disappointing message I had to relay here, yet again.

Thank you all so much for understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
